The Process

Design doesn't have to be expensive to be great!

Your old lawn is rich with organic materials, insects, fungi and microorganisms. Sheet mulching preserves that goodness by turning your lawn to compost while blocking weeds and helping retain water. We believe the process can be inexpensive and rewarding and we're going to let you in on some secrets. Like the cheapest way to buy materials and what plants actually cost without the landscape installer markup. You are part of this process and it's fully transparent since we tell you exactly how much everything should cost and help you along the way! Here's a summary of the design and installation process, from start to finish.

  • Free Site Assessment: Our designer will visit your property to evaluate sun and soil conditions, provide some rough estimates and information about available rebates in your city, and ask questions and show you some plant ideas to get to know your style and how to make it work with your budget.

  • Rebate Program Application/Approval: We help you with the application and inspection process to get your lawn-to-garden rebate approved. Once this is done, we move on to design knowing how large your rebate should be on project completion.

  • Paid Design: We create a preliminary design for you and meet you to review before proceeding with a final design. Our designs are hand-made, unlike ones you might see that are produced with professional landscape drag-and-drop renderings and once they're done, they belong to you. Along with the design you will receive a full plant list and rough estimates of all material costs and where/how to buy. This is how we make our living and we think our hand-rendered, hand-painted designs are suitable for framing! Hasn't happened yet but we're just waiting for the wave. :) Design includes:

    • Scale drawn design

    • Plant List

    • Materials List

    • Hardscape list (boulders, paved paths, dry creekbed stones, etc. For a small fee we will meet you at the hardscape site to help select stones & boulders)

  • Installer Bids/Selection: Once you have the completed design you can take the installation job out to bid, knowing your material costs up front. Some installers have equipment that makes getting the materials onsite less expensive, some mark up delivery fees. We help you sort that out. We have installers we have worked with before and we can work with yours.

  • Materials Delivery and Installation: We will check the delivered materials and be on site when planting begins so there's no confusion about which plant/rock/boulder goes where!

  • Project Completion and Rebate: We'll work with you to submit the rebate completion report so you get your lawn-to-sod rebate without hassle.

That's it!
